Fluorescent aquarium lights are a popular and versatile choice for illuminating your tank. Aquarium fluorescent lighting can be used in both freshwater and saltwater applications. Fluorescent bulbs are also great for shallow tanks with very low light demanding corals, like mushrooms. A few term description: NO (normal output), HO (high output), VHO (very high output) and V-HO (variable high output). T5 and T12 refer to the diameter of the fluorescent tube in 1/8 inch increments. T5 lights are 5/8 inches across; T12 lights are 12/8 (or 1.5 inches) across.
