Among pond fish, there are numerous feeding habits, from the almost continuous, predominantly herbivorous/detritus-scouring activities of many carps, to the more carnivorous techniques adopted by predominantly predatory species like the Orfe (Leuciscus idus). Modern high-quality commercial foods are palatable enough to be accepted by most fish. Many floating Koi pellets and sticks, for example, will be eaten just as readily by such diverse fish as Rudd and Guppies. However, the dietary requirements of every species should be thoroughly investigated, and specialized foods or supplements used as needed. To a certain extent, the natural fauna and flora of an established pond will also help overcome minor nutrition deficiencies that may have been overlooked. Nutritional requirements:Whatever their feeding habits or diets, all fish require the same basic nutrientes: proteins, carbohydrates, fats or oils (lipids), vitamins and mineral/inorganic salts (trace elements).
